Customer occupying the last box and most favourable position to the right of the dealer in blackjack.
BLOCKING:
The squaring up of any multiple of packs of cards, for example prior to shuffling or placing in a dealing shoe.
BOX:
A betting space on the layout.
BOXED CARD:
A card placed in the dealing shoe face up.
BRIDGING:
Placing chips centrally on top of two units/stacks.
BURN A CARD:
To remove a card after a shuffle.
CERTIFICATE HOLDER:
Gaming personnel approved by the Gaming Board under section 19 of the Act.
CHEMMY SHUFFLE: The mixing of cards face down as in the games of Blackjack, Punto Banco, Casino Stud Poker and Three Card Poker
CHIPS (WHEEL or COLOUR):
Tokens used for betting in place of money, on American Roulette tables (Each having markings specific to each table).
CHIPS (VALUE or CASH):
Tokens used for betting in place of money, with specific
value markings.
CLICKER:
A meter used to record cash input on each table.
CLOSE UP:
The period immediately following all members and guests leaving the casino.
COUP:
The cards held by a customer or dealer in any one round of a game.
CREDIT:
Removal of excess value chips from the initial float during a game
CUTTING (CHIPS):
To separate manually a specific number of chips from a stack.
DEALER:
The person responsible for operating the game, clearing losing bets and paying out winning bets.
DISCARD:
A card no longer required in the coup/game.
DROP BOX:
A fixed container for cash intake on each table.
DROP CARD:
Document used to record cash input to each table.
DROP:

FILL:
An addition to the initial float during a game.
HAND:

HEELING/STEPPING:
To displace chips in steps.
HITTING:
The first direct cutting of chips, against another stack.
INSPECTOR:
The person responsible for supervising dealers on live games.
LAYOUT:
The betting area, printed on the table baize.
MARKER BUTTON:
A chip used to represent or mark a specific amount or denomination.
MARKER BOARD/MARKER TREE:
A visual display of marker buttons.
MONKEY: A sum of £500, or a cash chip of that value.
ODDS:
Chances or balance-of probability of a result or outcome.
OPENING FLOAT (par float):
Set amount of chips issued at start of play.
PALLETTE:
A piece of equipment shaped like a paddle used to manoeuvre cards in Punto Banco.
PAYOUT AREA:
An area where payout or exchange transactions are made up and paid from.
PENCILLING (CHIPS):
The running off of chips from the bottom of the stack.
PIT:
A cordoned off area of gaming tables from which dealers work and to which customers have no access.
PLUNGER (PADDLE):
A T-shaped piece of equipment used to deposit cash in the table drop box.
PONY:
A sum of 25, or a cash chip of that value.
POSTILLION:
A plastic card used for cutting.
RIFFLE SHUFFLE:
The mixing of 'closed' cards in an alternate/ random manner.
SHOE:
A piece of equipment used to enable the 'drawing' of cards smoothly and near to the table surface.
SIZING:
Comparing the total of an unknown stack chips with a known quantity by placing the stacks side by side.
SPLITTING:
The separation of a 'pair' of cards.
SPREADING:
Fanning of cards flat for display.
STACK (FULL):
A pile of 20 chips of the same value or colour.
STEPPING:
As heeling-
SYSTEM:
A statistical ploy to try to beat the odds-
'TAX':
The 5% deduction made in Punto Banco payouts in order to pay bets on the bank at odds of 19:20.
TOP HATTER:
Customer who attempts to defraud the casino by placing his own chips under the top chip of the winning stack after the ball has dropped.
